I have a 93 cutlass supreme with a 3.4L. I was taking a turn the other day when i accelerated around the turn my car stalled. I coasted it into a parking lot and called AAA to tow it home. Since ive been here i opened up the air intake and sprayed starter fluid and nothing. It turns over again and again, but will not start. I smell fuel by the lines after i turn it over so i think its getting gas. I checked all fuses and relays and theyre all good. So maybe no spark? Any suggestions?

have you checked to see if your getting any spark from coil pack to plugs?

I cant get to them because i dont have a long enough extension and these plugs are down in there a ways, but I didn't think it would be the spark plugs because of how suddenly it stopped running and it really didn't sputter or anything before hand. Would it stop running suddenly because of the plugs? I don't really know how to check the coil. Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but it looks like the wires run into something like three distributer caps and they are all right up in the front facing the radiator at the bottom of the motor. I dont know if this matters, but i did find a little oil in the deep cylinders the spark plugs sit in. It could just be some that was spilled filling it but I dont see how it would get in there. I checked all my fluid to make sure there wasn't a blown head gasket and evrything is where its supposed to be. Is there any way i can test the coil? and thanks for helping me guys. I really appreciate it.

thats the coil pack your talking about if there is no spark to the plugs it will never start. you can try this take a plug out and then put the plug wire back on it and have someone turn motor over and look at plug see if it's orange or blue or nothing at all while turning it over you are not getting any spark. and if it shows orange thats not good it should be a blue spark. but like i say if no spark at all it will never run and you will smell gas. one other thing when you take plug out and it's wet with gas then i would say no spark from coil pack.
you may want to buy you a haynes manual for that car you can get them from autozone or advanced or most any parts stores thike those...good luck..

Thanks. I just have one last question. Should i spend the money to by the tools and parts or would it be more reasonable to have someone else do it If it is the coil? How hard would it be to change the coil pack on the car because it seems like it might be pretty hard to reach?

there really not hard to change some of these have like 3 or there all in one peace. do you have a friend that know's a little more about cars? if so tell him to get over there and help you because it looks hard but it's not. you may have to get on the ground to get to coil pack and save yourself some more costley money. have you called to see how much the coil pack cost? and have you pulled a plug out and see if it was soaked with gas or getting any spark yet?

Okay. I got the plugs out and tested them and no spark. The plugs look like the ones that came with the car. They are old and beat up. The coils cost 31 dollars a piece and there are three seperate coils. I am going to attempt this by myself, but I'm not sure how well it's gonna go. I have always done my own work to vehicles but i have always had older cars and this is my first time trying to do engine work on motor that sits sidways like this. There are all kinds of radiator hoses and air conditioning lines that are all crammed in between the front of the engine and the radiator. I have like six inches to work in to get these things out. I can feel my hand starting to bleed already. Also, the back three plugs and wires are rediculous. It looks to me like it would take some pretty crafty tools or nothing short of lifting the engine out of the car............ what do you do about that?

Crankshaft positioning sensor? Ignition? The coils are in three seperate pieces and I could be wrong but it seems like they wouldn't all go bad at the same time, so if only one was bad there should still be spark from 4 cylinders, correct? I'm running out of ideas.

Do you have 12v to the pink wire on the icm?, also using a scanner do you have cranking rpms, if not the crank sensor is bad or the wiring from the cps to the icm. Seen some bad pcms also, but you must do the above posted tests first.

I tested to see if the power was going in to the icm, and there wasn't. So I guess im looking next to the cps. I also rechecked the fuses and there is definetly power going into and out of all ign fuses. So its somewhere in between.
