i have a 88 cherekee inline six i wanted to kno if my problem was a sign of my tranny slipplin what does it slippin even feel like?

but the reason im asking is when i use to step on my gas with some super in the tank i would feel the power in the pedal and now it seems week it took me some time to notice it and im not sure more or less when the change came but im sure it was after the cold weather started

i filled the tank with super and check fuel pressure its fine
i bypassed my ballast resistor like 2months now thats the only major change made recently
but i think i remember still feeling the power after i mash the pedal again im not sure when but it feels week

do i need to adjust th TV cable? how would i kno?

any helps greatly appreciated
thanks

I too have an 88. I guess you think that you have lost some of the "power" you felt earlier? Well, depending just how much " abuse" you gave it, I would recommend and complete tanny service (flush). How many miles? Mine has 154K and its running strong, shifts hard 1-2, but everything else is right. Also, are you using the Power Switch on the dash? This will change your shift points, giving you firmer shifts. I drive mine daily (44miles) But have done many upgrades. With gas $$ I have let up on my "hard" driving, but when I need to pass, its all still there, it takes no time to reach 75+ mph from 45mph!:grinyes:
When you service the treanny, inspect the pan for clutch material, a good sign of wear. As long as there is no glitter, you should be fine, just add a bottle of Lucas tranny restore, it will help allot.

Thanks for the speedy reply, question what switch on the dash? the one that says? (cant think of what it says) but some with tranny right? what do you mean by shift points, and firmer shifts(when are these needed)

sorry i just dont kno that much of the machanic language, lol im getting pretty good at the work though, infact regular tune-ups pretty frequent actually, plugs, oil change, fuel filter, oil filter new IAC, new fuel pump(6months old), and not to mention when i got my inspection done i had a leaking tranny gasket i change it myself and it went pretty well actually no more leaking and it looked pretty clean inside the filter plate and all didnt notice anything in the fluid either?

And what kind of upgrades could i get for gas? or anything else for that matter

Good on you for trying to learn. This maybe aggravating at times, but it wil save you allot of $$ in the end.
As far as your tv cable adjustment, with the throttle at rest(closed) there should be a very small amount of play in the cable, if there is no play, press the half moon shape tab down and slide the cable sheath back till it stops. With the engine off, press on the gas pedal( to the floor) and release, this should set your cable, you'll probably hear a ratcheting sound when pressing on the accelerator. That will take care of your tv cable, when you changed your tranny fluid was it dark, or black in color, or more of an amber color. Usually dark or black is a "bad thing", but if the fluid didn't smell burnt then you maybe ok. Make sure that your fluid level is correct, this is critical to proper shifting. What fluid did you use? What is the color of your fluid now?
Not sure about the bypassing the resistor on the fuel pump? This may have created a problem. When you drive it and start to notice the "lack of power" get a FUEL PRESSURE reading with a good gauge, also leave the gauge on the engine and drive it, monitor the pressure when driving normal, then mash it to the floor and see what happens to the pressure, it should go up, if it drops then you have found your problem to be fuel related and will need to R&R the fuel pump. If that is the case, reconnect the resistor too.

at the moment i had to didnt have the money for a new pump and wasnt sure that was the problem i think what happen is i got a hgher voltage pump or something but fuel pressure is normal 39-40 psi without vacumm and 30-31 with it.

How do i drive with pressure gauge attach i live in the city and even if i could go around the block how will i see the gauge? I need heep with this one. lol

on another note i performed somewhat of a leak down test after testing pressure i attached the regulator vacumm and noted the pressure 31 psi and than i shut down the engine. the book says to wait 30 minutes then check the pressure and a 0-20 psi drop is allowable but before 30 minutes was up 5-10 minutes after shut down engine i noticed that the pressure was higher than when i shut it off does this mean anything to you it was close to the 40 mark (could have rose to 39) but i was afraid that something was wrong so i press the pressure release button on the guage and of course the pressure on the gauge drop to none and i disconnected the guage.

Should i let it stay attached the full thirty minutes?
or is this enough diagnostics to know whats wrong?

after disconnecting the resistor when i did the car drove great for the longest amount of time actually with out any fuel delivery problems
just a lil note i know its a big risk but with the resistor the car kept shutting off soon as i started it and when i jump the resistor wires it stayed on after buying about 3 resistors OEM quality i figured the pump voltage was to high or something like that

what do u think?
