Drive shaft problems

I am trying to remove the rear drive shaft so i can replace the carrier bearing(mid bearing). The drive shaft does not slip of the splines, is there some kinda of lock clip that holds this on, if so how do i seperate it?

What truck, year, engine, trannie?
Single or dual driveshaft? Obviously dual, as you have carrier bearing.
Splines in the output shaft? Those don't have clip, but rust very fast. Credit to GM cheapness.

I will state the obviouse(sp) just in case. you have to remove the two bolt on straps on the rearend, slide that universal joint out then unbolt the cairrier bearing from the truck and slide towards the back of the truck. I would change the universal joints while its apart. I did this same job and replaced the universals and carrier bearing with spicer parts, I haul 500 gallons (over 4,000lbs) a couple of times a week and the universals and carrier from spicer have lasted longer then oem. you will also need a press to do the cairier bearing as I wouldnt pound that on it has to be straight.

I understand removing the bolts to undo the u joint closest to the diff. but the drive shaft should slide off of the splines at the mid way point. Let me add that it moves freely 3" or 4" forwards and backward but it wont slide completly off of the splines.

Look right on the end of yoke.
There should be a screw on cap on the end where the splines slip in it.
Take a large pair of pliers and screw it off then the drive shaft will pull out.

And as said press work and special set up stuff on the rear end bearing.
