I have a 92 S10 Blazer that has a leak in the joint between the y-pipe and the left exhaust manifold. I know I'm going to need to replace the bolts, springs, and nuts. What are the steps I need to take to successfully replace that gasket without bugging anything up? Special tools? Techniques? And how do I know if I have flanges or donuts in those joints?

It should have new style donuts.
But unless you are experienced in old rusty crystalize exhaust bolts that may twist off.
A good exhaust /muffler shop may be you best bet.
Good Luck

I'd like to try it myself. So what are some ways to get the bolts out?

Soak them good a couple of times with skunk juice/penetrating oil or PB blaster overnight and before starting on it.
Heat on stud are sometimes helps.
If nuts on studs I use a nutcracker on nuts to help break them lose.
If bolt or stud twist off it is drill out and tap.
If you can get to it or.
Sometimes the exhaust manifold has to come off and then sometimes the manifold bolts to head break creating more problems.
The exhaust pipe studs sometimes become crystallized and break when you try to loosen them up or put back together.
I always say a little prayer before trying to loosen them up.
Let us know how it goes.
