I have a 1995 Geo Metro with about 145K miles on it and it burns about 1 Qt of oil per tank of gas.
I believe that it needs a ring job. It would probably be simpler and cheaper to replace the engine.
It seems that one group of engines will fit geos up to early 1995 models, and other engines will fit late 1995 and later. I have 2 questions.
1) How do you identify an early vs late 1995 car.
2) what are the issues related to putting a newer engine into an older car?

On the engine change I did, I found only one wire clip that had changed, and also one sensor was deleted, if your only replaceing the long block it should be the same. I spent $1200 rebuilding the motor.

I've got two GEO's in my yard for going to work or around and five others for power and recreation,
I bash the GEO's every day except for when I fill up the gas tank(s) on the Truck or the Camaro,
Cam 2 will be about $4.50 or more a gallon this summer, so I'll keep the GEO running and have more money to enjoy my toys on the weekend.

That year metro had bad main seals. I had one that popped out and dumped my oil pan contents on the ground.
