leaking exhaust???

I'll try to be brief - 98 accord ex 4 cyl manual 120k. I just had the oil changed at my local dealer. Since then (immediately) there are exhaust fumes coming into the cabin. It is more prevalent at stop lights and most of all with the heat on. If I put the heat on recirculate the smell goes away. Originally I just thought some smelly tech got my car dirty but the fumes are so bad I get headaches. So my question is this - what on earth did they do to my car?

Thanks

My guess would be it's some spilled oil burning off the exhaust that you smell, not exhaust itself...

I'd take it back and make sure the filter isn't leaking or something...

Could be wrong, but this seems most likely....can't think of a way they could have caused an exhaust leak unless they smashed the pipe with the lift or something...

Either way, they caused it, they need to correct it.

Do not bother with that!

This is Honda's design: oil filter is right above the exhaust pipe. When you remove the filter old oil spills on the exhaust. The smell will go away when the oil burns off.

It took almost a week after my last oil change for the smell to go away. Still made me nervous...

CEL came on today. Called dealer and they cleaned oil up and pulled codes P1147 and P1157. He said the oil caused this. Reset CPU. I have a feeling I'll be taking back soon on their dime.

if it was your exhaust i'd imagine it would have to be louder to allow any significant amount of fumes into cabin
