Thinking about buying a PA

I am thinking about buying a used Park Ave and just wanted your opinions about these cars.
There are several low mileage (< than 70k) cars available in my area in the $2800 - $3500 range for a 95–96 model.

I have read several posts about problems with intake gaskets on the 3.8 engines on the 95-98 models. Apparently, a lot of these engines are affected by this problem while many are not.

I looked at the repair guide @ autozone.com and replacing the gaskets seem pretty straight forward.
I was wondering if this should deter me from buying?
Also, are there any specific years /models (Ultra) to avoid and what other problematic things do these cars experience?

I have also read that these are dependable family cars with good power and ride.

Any advice from the AF family would be appreciated.

I've been driving a 98 Ultra since I bought it new, first as our primary family car and now as my commute to work (65 miles one way) car.

These are great cars. I've gotten 240K miles with the only major repair being a transmission replacement at 180K. Very comfortable ride, roomy for the family. My only advice is be sure to get the supercharged 3800. In a car this size without the supercharger its a little slow in a hard acceleration.

Would highly recommend one. I intend to drive mine until the engine dies (expect to get at least 300K) and even then I might replace the power plant and keep it if Buick doesn't quit making little cars that look like Hondas (HATE the Lucerrne)

I bought a 97 park and replaced the plenum and gaskets as a preventative measure. Took me about 6 hours but I was careful to do the job right. It is not that hard it just takes time.

I kind of figured Park ave's were decent used cars based on other posts and car reviews I have found on the web.

Also, The post by 1965 really sums up all of the little problems that can pop up on these cars. It is good to hear about them in advance so i will not be to pissed if I encounter some of these problems when I do find my PA. I guess the more bells and whistles a car has, the more problems that can occur.

Since I am a mechanic, I will be able to handle these repairs myself.
However, I will get the factory service manual for the car first thing so I will be ready for repairs when the time comes.

For now, I am keeping my eyes open for a low mileage PA in good condition. I think I will hold out for an Ultra, I am tired of under powered cars.
