I was helping my friend do a 5-lug conversion on his 91 Gt today. My friend unlike me has a budget and does not think his credit card was designed to help him buy parts for his car he can't afford.
I was thinking in this thread everyone would add a cheap way to do a modfication they have read about, done, or even figure out themselves,

So hear is a Cheap Trick that will be a big favorite among the 4-lug crowd who get stuck with the horrible wheel selection. Instead of having to pay for those expensive 5-lug conversion kits, here is an awesome cheap way to do it. First, all these parts you can either buy new one's or get them from a junkyard.
For the rear you need the axles and drums from a Ford Ranger with an 8.8 rear-end. Since everything is exactly the same as a 87-93 Mustang except they are 5-lug, it's a simple swap.
For the front end it's stays just as simple. All you need is 2 rotors from a 91 Lincoln LSC. The rotor is the same size and the wheel bearings are exactly the same. But once agian they are 5-lug.
Hope some of you find as much use for this as many of my friends have.

What do you mean, credit cards are not ment to be used for car parts? Damn, you should have told me that about $10,000 ago. LOL

Anyway here's a few cheap tricks.

This one kills 2 birds with one stone. Find an old T-bird Turbo Coupe in a junk yard. These cars came with an 8.8 rear and 3.73's if an auto, and 3.55's if stick. Also they have 5 lug disks brakes from the factory. So there is your gears and 5 lug disk swap. 5 lug conversion (http://www.mustangcentral.net/tech/5lug.html)
brake upgrades (http://mjbobbitt.home.attbi.com/index.html)

This one is for cooling. Electric fan swap from a Lincoln Mark VIII.
electric fan swap (http://www.geocities.com/smithmonte/Auto/MarkVIII_Fan.htm)

This one would be need after the electric fan swap. The fan will draw more amps so you will need to upgrade your alt to a 130amp 3G alt. I have more info on this but can't find it at the moment. I will post it when I have more time to find it.

Take care, Craig

If you want to switch to a Tremec tranny. Save $200 and use the bell housing from a Ford SROD4 tranny to install it.

Puttin the computer from an auto into a manual tranny car will gain you a couple tenths on the 1/4mile

Now don't get confused.
Putting a computer from a manual car into an auto car is a NO NO.
