i have removed my crank in my 94 grand am 2.3L SOHC and was in the process of putting it back in. i was putting the bearings on the connecting rods when i noticed that the two rods closest to the timing were very stiff and hard to move, but the other two were free and moved quite easy to move. so im wondering what is wrong if anything and what i need to replace. is it just the wrist pin because thats i was thinking but i dont know im new to pontiacs. thanks for any help.

and also i noticed that on three rods there were outlines of the bearing on the inside of the rod but not on the fourth and outer one next to the rear main seal. what does this mean?

It seems that you have to get your crank regrinded. Take it to the nearest machine shop and get their opinion. There shouldnt be any looseness or play anywhere. If it does have to be ground, they will recommend the necessary parts (bearings) to make everything work together.

Take the rods in as well. There shouldnt be any grooves.

i have already bought a new crank because the old one was worn down because the piston bearing spun. im just wondering if i need to replace the wrist pins or something else? thanks for the advice

No need to start a new thread, I merged the new one here.

You should be able to buy them from the same place you bought the crank. That way they'll know the right size to match the crank.

Or any parts store should be able to order them. You just need the crank dia. and the proper connecting rod length.
