well im getting $350 back from taxes, and ive got money saved up,ive already got a 3 inch high flow cat,and im ordering headers with a 3 inch downpipe.when i take it to the exhaust shop to get it all welded up should i buy a 3inch cutout and let them install it? or is it completely pointless on a supercharged car? also should i get 3 inch pipe from my cat back to my y or just leave it at 2.5? thanks for any info guys.

If your gonna install a cutout, install it before the cat so that there is no backpressure at all on the engine when you open it, if its after the cat then yes it is pointless, it will just make it louder.

I have to agree that a cutout will just make it noiser. If you have headers and a 3 inch cat and a 3 inch catback system you won't need it to get the performance you are looking for. So save your money and use it for a smaller SC pulley!

cutout is pointless on a supercharged car. only time you get a benefit from a cutout is if the car is turbod.

thanks for the info guys,i can get a 3inch one locally for $10 so i think i may just get it for the loudness when im at the track.ill put it after the cat so no ses light,i know there will be no gains but i cant pass up $10.

You should get a O2 simulator to forever rid your self of damn "catlyist below efficiency" codes. I have one on all of my cars and i pass inspection every time with flying colors

I don't agree with that statement. Exhaust backpressure certainly makes a difference in "clearing" the cylinder of burned combustion gases on charged or normally-asiprated engines. Granted the 3800s are very good in EGR tolerance but when you're trying to make power you don't want any EGR.

That said, the times I've been "forced" to live with an "exhaust cutout" by virtue of the old broken exhaust pipes, it sounded cool for about 15 minutes then became a tiresome, wearing drone that I wanted fixed.

Another issue is the routing of the exhaust cutout...be careful you don't cook something underbody as it is definitely going to get hot...
