Secondary air injection system fault code?

My check engine light is on. The code reads "secondary air injection system fault".
The scanner gave probable causes as:circuit relay defective or fuse open,
Check connector and wiring, AIR pump defective or hoses blocked.
Where do I find this? I will check the fuses first.

the air pump is mounted to the fram crassmember right under the drivers seat. On of the first steps is to turn the key to the on position and listen for the pump to run. If it doesn't, whack the back of it. If it runs after whacking it replace it.

The air pump only runs occasionally on demand from the pcm, that test will not work, only if you use a bi-directional scanner to command it on. Check the fuse first, then the usuual problem is the check valve /solenoid gets moisture in it and can freeze or just fail.

The fuse is good. Where is the check valve solenoid mounted?

In the hose from the air pump to the manifold.

If I remove the pump from the frame rail, and put 12vdc directly to it, should it run? Can I test it this way?

Yes. It must be grounded also.

there is a red and a brown wire at the harness. When I ground the unit which wires will I hook the power to?

Red should be power but to be sure check the wiring diagrams at autozone.com, repair guides.

The pump runs with power run directly to it. How do I check the check valve/solenoid mounted on the passenger side of the engine, that the hoses run too?

The AIR system on this vehicle runs at cold start. The PCM runs a couple tests on the system to verify proper operation and air flow.
The DTC # would be the most useful information and tell us what test failed.
The AIR pump should pump air to the solenoid mounted above the exhaust manifold during a cold start.
The solenoid valve should not have exhaust gas "blowing back" into it with the engine running (usually 60 seconds after cold start)
Post the DTC........

would I have to go to the dealer to get the DTC#.
I went Autozone the read a code P0410.
