Duplicolor paint

Anyone used Duplicolor Metal cast paint ?

I have buy some paint today
- Duplicolor Chrome
- Duplicolor Metalic Blue
- Tamiya TS-30 (will finish my enzo :D )
- Testor Clear (nothing other is avalable)


So My question is: Is duplicolor paint will hurt plastic ?

I'm not sure, but I don't think you should be using this stuff. Some people have messed up models with this (including a stunning 350z) If nothing else is avaliable,try using automotive clear.

Definitely avoid using testors clear, not because of yellowing, but because you're mixing lacquers and enamels. Duplicolors are lacquers also with Tamiya. If you spray enamel clear over it, the clearcoat will most likely crack or haze.

If you prime the body first it shouldnt hurt it. I've used duplicolor alot (Mirage paint=duplicolor) for colors and if i prime it, i have no trouble. If your still worried, try it out on a scrap peice of the model and see what happens.

did you try without primer ?? I don't have any right now (my town is total shit.. no primer, no clear, not all tamiya paint (why I got Duplicolor) it's bad :(

And for the Testor Clear, I already used it with good sucess, but this time, the can is not the same color and i'm worrie about that... will try it on my "test" model.. I was sued to the "Gray" spraycan, not it's a brown/gold spraycan...

oh and I got more bad experience with Automotive clear than testor..

Duplicolor will MELT your model! You have to use a primer. You can use Tamiya Primer (I did on the F-150) without any problems. If you can get that, you can use the duplicolor. Duplicolor also makes primers that will not harm the plastic if you mist them on until the plastic is covered, then give it a nice smooth coat. HTH

only primer avalable at my shitty town is Testor Gray primer, and forget that it's total shit :rolleyes:

argg.. I will have to drive 200km to get some paint... :rolleyes:

I have used Duplicolor Primer, paint and laquer. As long as you wait long enough to et it dry (minimum of 30 minutes..) it should work fine, metallics preferbly a little longer or you'll et the same white lines I got on my models. Look at the adres in my sig where my models are, except the S2K all with duplicolor.

sorry, maybe I'm not fully awake, but did you use primer on your model ? and for the 30 minutes, I usuly make only 2 coat of paint by day (on the morning and on the evening) then wait 3 day before working on it.

btw I have used Duplicolor Mirage paint (primer paint clear) on my Computer casse, but it's not the same paint
