No power to the radio!! sucks:(

One night, I accidently didn't turn the key all the way off and the battery was dead the next morning. After jump starting the car, the radio will not work at all. There is no power going to it period. I checked the fuses inside the vehicle and the one labled "radio/amplifier" is blown. When I tried to replace it, it sparked and blew the new one. I tried this twice and it did the same thing. Any quick fix for this?? Thanks.

Hi... Usually when a fuse blows, it means that the device hooked to it is drawing too much current. Unfortunately from what you describe there isn't any "easy" fix. The next step is to isolate the problem. Does the fuse blow even if the radio is turned off? If there is an amplifier connected, try pulling the cable to it. Does your car have the automatic antenna that goes up and down as you turn the radio on and off? If so, try to pull the cable to that and see if that went bad. As a last resort, pull the cable from the radio itself and make sure that the fuse doesn't blow with it disconnected. It's possible that the jump you got produced a surge in the radio or amplifier circuit that shorted out some of the internal components. Just as an aside, are you sure you are using the correct size (amperage) fuse? If it's supposed to be a 15 amp fuse for example, and you put in a 5 amp by mistake, the 5 amp fuse will most likely blow too. Some people try to "fix" the problem by putting in a bigger fuse. Not a good idea..... That could result in smoke and a lot more damage than already exists. Good luck with your problem......
