The old hammer test is usually a good indication of a bad starter.
Was it a brand new or good quality new rebuilt starter?
I would run a good voltage test on the starter circuit.
Also on battery and cabels and grounds.
Let us know how it goes.

No it was a REBUILD so I guess this could happen what do you think?

Yes you could have a bad rebuilt.
But I would check the starter circuit for proper voltage and also battery and cables over good.
Most parts places have brand new starters for just a few $ more than a rebuilt.
If it is a bad rebuilt see if parts place will exchange it in on a brand new one.
Let us know how it goes.
Good luck

did you notice if any shims fell out when you took starter out to replace new one? and yes you might have got ahold of a bad starter if it was rebuilt. like mod said get a new one after you make sure of cables and circuits.

OK Update No shims at all this is the deal the fact that the new REBUILD starter simulated the exact problems that the ORG.starter did just makes me think that its not the starter at all but after refering with other machanics they all said check the most simple things first. what I thought my GOOD mechanic would have done .....NOPE well it ends up 2 years ago I had a good top terminal DIE HARD battery so I said let me save some money and buy the adapters that convert a top post battery to use with a vehicle that calls for side battery terminals well after 2 years a good amount of corrosion built up under the side post male terminal(POS) "THAT WAS THE PROBLEM" NOT A NEW STARTER " WHY when in the past I would bang the starter the truck would start is beyond me explaining cleaned up all the connections and should be good to go NO THIS THING IS GONNA KILL ME ! tonight I noticed very weird things going on first the truck stalled THAT NEVER HAPPENDS IT would idol around 400 rpm but for some reason it dropped below 300 rpm and died then I started to hear a whine I never had and third when i HIT the alarm to lock vehicle it was not loud at all or not loud like it usually is now I THINK I NEED A NEW BATTERY ..... what do you guys think..... I'm exhausted all have a great SUNDAY football SUNDAY Anthony ....

Before throwing more parts at it.
As said in post 4 run a voltage check on the system.
Check all battery cabels and grounds and have battery tested and charging voltage checked.
Good Luck

OK check this out after all It may not even have been the STARTER went to sears and they said the battery I had in the truck for 2 years was rated at 595 CCA cold cranking amps the truck calls for 700 CCA cold cranking amps 1 st. problem 2 nd was the old battery I was using was a top post battery so I bought those adapters and they said you could loose 50 to 75 amps from that alone because the side posts set up tend to corriode a lot more then the top post ....... less contact area ........so I needed a NEW REBUILT STARTER ANY WAY as the stock one I got 120,000 miles out of it . just wanted to let you all know those adapters suck and the right CCA per the VEHICLE is really kinda important Thanks for all you help Anthony
