Get yourself a manual by Haynes or Chilton from Pep Boys or any other auto parts store. It'll give you an idea what it will take to do the job. For sure you are going to have to remove the fan and fan clutch, serpentine belt, upper rad hose, etc. It should not be too hard.

I checked my 91-99 Chilton Manual. Page 3-41 clearly describes the procedure to replace the timing belt. The V6s have chain belts.

What's the recommended mileage for replacement of the timing belt? My son just bought a 98 with 113K.

I assume this is a 2.5L engine.

Ford recommends 120,000 miles, but I would go ahead and start since you have 113K miles.
You can use this link to find the interval on any vehicle.

And here's a link which will let you know if your vehicle has an interference engine. If so, that will be shown in red letters in the comments section.
