I bought what I thought was a b16a2, but I found out from comparing my valve cover to the one on my friends 2000 si that it is different.
The difference is that he has a honda symbol and I do not.....mine say honda motor company and dohc.... his says dohc and has a honda symbol.......although the engine block says that it is a b16a2.......can someone tell me what the hell is going on here!!!!!!!!

B16A2

But the fact is.it is too easy to change them out if they get nasty so people do.Also with all the different ones out there it matters where it was made.

you probably have a jdm b16a valve cover or it could be a jdm b16a sir2 motor.
are the dohc letters bigger than the vtec? if so then you have a jdm valve cover.

b16a jdm valve cover:

b16a usdm valve cover

see the difference.
i'm just telling him that he may have a jdm valve cover and that doesn't mean that i said that he had a b16a sir2. i just said that maybe he has one. listen to the keyword that i used "...it COULD be a jdm b16a sir2 motor."

I don't need a visual thank you,I have seen them,I said that because he stated that he thinks he got a B16A2,not nescessarily in response to you.

the stamp on the engine says b16a2, but the valve cover differs from my friends b16a2 in his 2000 si. If I had a camera I would take a pic of it, but I don't!

If it has a B16A2 stamped on the block, than most likely it is a USDM 99-00 si or Canadian siR.It could possibily be a EDM 92-00 siR (II) motor, but I doubt it.Do you have it in your car yet?

I just looked at the valve cover and the DOHC is bigger than the vtec and then at the bottom it says honda motor co. if it was jdm wouldn't it be red though? Mine is black.

Yes...it has been in my car for about 9 months now....but my vtec is currently not working as you know and I have not ran it at the track....it is also bone stock, but still a dohc vtec!

Did you have to do any wiring to adapt the OBD IIb that the 99-00 si runs?Another thing it could be,is a 96-97 delsol,if it plugged straight in this would be a good possibility, since it is OBD II.And I believe the valve cover is DOHC vtec.

It did not plug straight in I had to get a 96+ gsr ecu so i got a 99 gsr ECU. So what do you think....that would be sick if it was a SiRII, but I totally doubt it too! Also isn't the delsol engine just a B16a?

What did you have to do to get it to plug in?Why are you running a GSR ECU and what did you do about the ECU looking for the IAB sensor?Did you get it chipped? The US delsol from 94-95 was the B16A3 from 96-97 it was the B16A2.

sorry man I could not tell you what I did because I did not do it...i had a friend in San Diego do it for me....he told me what to get and I did it....he told me to get a Si shift linkage and shifter, OBD II GSR ECU, EX wiring harness, and Si axels, and then in like 5 hours I was running a swapped engine! Miracles can happen! I thought that I would never get rid of that 1.6 SOHC!

Are you throwing CEL codes, besides your vtec? With that ECU you should be.

I am not sure about the codes yet I am taking it to the shop on Saturday and they are going to find out what is wrong then I will
know what is going on....I would have no idea what I was doing if I looked myself because I would not know where to look it up . your car has to be on to do the check right...to jump it?
