Dash Lights

On 2001 Tahoe. The dash and radio lights sometimes are dim and other times they have completly quit working. Adjusted the dimmer knob next to the light switch and they will flicker and sometimes the lights will adjust fine. Notice that at times it gets hot around the housing that contains the light switch and dimmer knob. I realize that the light switch and dimmer are one complete unit. I was wondering if the resister is going bad in the dimmer knob.

Could be bad or lose wire.
Pull it out where you can get to wiring and dash light feed and check it out.

The dimmer contacts inside the switch may be oxidized. Don't know if you can open it to clean them with some fine sand paper, but that may help. Squirt some electrical contact grease on them afterwards to protect from oxidation & for lubrication.
