Grand Am Fuel Gauge problem

I am having the same problem on my '02 grand am right now. Called a dealership who is pretty low in prices and they said it would be around $450 to fix. They have to take apart everything and get inside the gas tank to fix it. I was like screw that...I've just put $1300 in it within the last 3 weeks. I'll just fill it up every 100 miles or so.


EDIT: They said it was probably the fuel sensor...forgot to mention that

not sure if you're actually asking a question there, but my gas gauge gets pretty flaky in the lower 1/4 tank too, dealer quoted me $500 to change it which seems pretty close to yours. I know the part is $110 from NAPA and it doesn't look too complicated to change aside from dropping the tank. I'm planning on changing it as soon as it gets a little warmer out.

Yeah, I was responding to another question but forgot we aren't in 2008 anymore...so the mod started a new thread for me. Sorry about that.

I have some friends who work on cars...I'll have to give them a call and see what they say. Good luck on yours and let me know how it goes.

EDIT: I should say my fuel gauge stays on full while I'm driving but after 75 miles or so will show in between full and 3 quarters when parked but still full when driving...its weird but doesn't bother me at least.

Its not hard to change.
Just drop the tank, and make sure to clean the top of the tank off before opening it or you could get debri in the tank.

Also be carefull with the fuel pump wires they can be brittle and break.
