loud noise under the hood.

i have a 94 gp se 3.1. it makes a loud whinning type noise when i accelerate from a stop, the harder i hit the gas the louder it gets. but once i get up to speed and the rpm's go down it stops. would it be anything on the belt line such as a worn tensioner pulley? its really annoying

drive the car around the block with the belt off. Your steering will be hard, and volts light on, but you can do it for a very short period of time. If the noise goes away with the belt off, turn all the pullys and listen and feel for roughness. If they feel OK. Maybe begin with replacing the belt. It could just be worn out.

My guess is an alternator bearing. Mine was doing the same thing and the bearings has a rough dry sound when I took the belt off and spun the pulley by hand. I got mine rebuilt for less than $60 at a nearby shop.
Water pump bearings also make a loud noise but the alternator makes a whining buzzing sound.

Could it the belt tensioner pulley making the noise also?

thanks... yea i took the belt off and spun the alt. and it is making a rough dry sound.

ok, so you found your problem. You can either buy a new, reman, or you can bring your alternator in and have it rebuilt.

I know some shops rebuild alternators for a very reasonable price.
