A friend of mine blew his rearend up in his '85 Caprice and I'm trying to help him replace it.
I am a Toyota junky(4x4) and know nothing about his Caprice.
What vehicles had the same rear axles?(years and models)
I don't know what gears came stock in these either, and would like to know.
I am trying to help him source one now and would like to know what other vehicles to look for.
Any online FSMs floating around for the '85 Caprice?
I believe the Buick Roadmaster is the same as the newer Caprice, but wasn't made in '85.
What years of Caprices will swap over?
So far I found these models are similar, but I don't know if the rear axles are the same.(Can anyone verify?)
1977-85 Buick LeSabre
1977-90 Buick Estate
1977-90 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser
1986-91 Oldsmobile 88
1982-86 Pontiac Bonneville
Sorry for the total Newb questions.
Thanks for any help.

you will find that this axle is very common and used in many GM vehicles...this rear diff has few problems and the scrap yard should have one for you for a good price...

GM B-body sedan with 7.5" ring gear, used 1977-1990 (also 1991-1996 but the wheel bolt pattern is different).
The wagon unit won't properly fit, so get one only from a sedan.

Are they linked rear ends or leaf springs?
Are the 77-90 rear ends all linked or leafs also?
Thanks for the help
