Rear Defroster Tab Fell Off

My rear defroster tab fell off two weeks ago in the Wisconsin Sub-zero weather. And the defroster doesn't work anymore.
So I was going to solder the tab back on the glass, but heard about if you get the glass too hot it will crack. And I was wondering how hot the glass would have to get to crack while I was doing a quick little solder job???? Because I don't want to spend $30 on an 'epoxy' kit that doesn't conduct electricity as good as the solder, and the epoxy probably won't hold as well either.

if you just use a 1500 watt or less soldering iron you should be ok, lots of flux and no torches. The glass is more likely to crack if the temperature differential is high. Get the vehicle into a heated garage and get the glass as warm as possible before soldering. If you don't have a heated garage park it with the glass facing the sun or use a space heater or hair dryer to warm up the glass first.
