Went to put on the wipers today and right when they came about half way up i herd the fuse pop. i put a paper clip between the terminals just to get the wipers to lay back down. when i had the wiper switch to "Off" they would still move. could the switch be bad? BTW i got the '83 so the switch is on the dash next to the headlight switch rather than the blinker arm.

I would be surprised to find that you could hear the fuse pop...usually this problem is the internal wiper motor PARK SWITCH....this would require you to replace the wiper motor...
If you give the wiper motor a good hit and it begins to run then you'll know...I have screwed with the switch and after all these years on it the contacts are worn out...
using a paper clip is a good way to damage your wiring...this could be very expensive...

Ok i checked the motor wiring, the fuse isnt popping anymore but the wipers still wont shut off. the WHOLE motor has to be replaced still or is it possible to be the switch? (dont mean to ask the same question twice but i jus wanna be sure) btw mine has the delay feature, and that still works.

Yeah i have the same switch assembly as you. I have a feeling its the switch cuz after all thats the thing that tells the motor when to go on. If i were you i wouldn't wanna replace that motor if i didnt have to cuz i'm sure the switch is cheaper. And also i don't know what you think but in my opinion the switches on this car generally feel kind of finicky but i guess its just the time period this model is from. I don't know if this is the type of thing autozone would have but who knows.

yeah i just got back from the auto parts store and they just sell the motor only, not with the circut board module and washer pump. they said that could be a dealer only part (hopefully they still make it if i gotta get all that stuff) I was thinkin of getting another wiper switch and see if that fixes it first, ive been wanting to get another switch anyway cause mine doesnt move that well anyway.

Also is the park switch inside the motor itself and is this it here? http://info.rockauto.com/getimage/getimage.php?imagekey=76034&imageurl=http%3A//info.rockauto.com/ACDelco/4961604.jpg
found the motor and module all in one on rock auto too http://info.rockauto.com/getimage/getimage.php?imagekey=32417&imageurl=http%3A//www.cardone.com/Imagesftp/40/401681-01.jpg

I'm sure its a simple enough switch that it would be inter-changeable with any other switch of the type. Don't know if theres an autozone near you but i looked on the site and they sell the switch assembly! BUT...its $113!!! Typical...i need to replace my blinker stock and they wanted around the same price if not more..in my case everything still works its jsut the plastic broke so its all taped up. Only reason it costs so much is the electronics..I don't get why its so expensive i mean its not like its new technology or anything?!
