Help! I have a 98 Taurus with Remote Start. I already have electrical issues - doors lock after driving awhile or idling, chimes when key not in ignition. I have a remote start that requires you to press two buttons to start it. Today, my car started TWICE without me even using the remote! I was nowhere near the car when this happened. Has anyone heard of anything so bizarre???

As I don't believe remote start was an option on the '98, I suspect you have an aftermarket remote start system. It sounds like maybe the install was less than high quality. I'd suggest you start by pulling the fuses for the remote start system (hopefully you know where they are located) and see if the odd issues go away.
Do you have any information on the brand of remote start system that was installed?

Hi Ron
Thanks for the quick reply.... This remote start was installed at least 5 years ago. I have never had any problem with it at all until now. Do you think maybe someone in my near vicinity has the same frequency? It just baffles my mind.
Thanks for the help!

If the remote starter is a mainstream brand of decent quality, it will use code hopping so someone nearby having the same frequency, channel, and code is literally one in billions.
Does it use the OEM remote and you press a sequence of buttons, or does it have separate remotes from the factory system? If separate, do the remotes have a brand name on them or an FCC ID number?
