Girl friend has a 95, 5.7 L, caprice that has hard time starting or won't start at all when it is cold out side (19 degrees F or below). The starter turns/spins the engine but wont get the engine to run. If it does start, it will run for about 5 seconds then shuts off. It also so shuts off if i give it gas. What i've done so far is replaced the idle control valve that was an 80.00 dollar waste. Replaced that becuase a mechanic suggested i do that. Anyone have an idea of what i should do to ge this car running when it's extremely cold outside?

Thanks,

Hayes

this is usually low fuel pressure ...measure the fuel pressure should be around 47psi....if low or when ignition off it drops rapidly its the pump..

if the pump is replaced replace the fuel filter ...

this is assuming that the pump does run....makes some noise..

when cold,,, engine needs more fuel so it don't run with low pressures..at injectors......

It is very important to keep the fuel at least 1/2tank when cold weather arrives...and never run below 1/4 or she will be buying another pump soon....only install the DELPHI pump....airtex is junk...

you may also have a simple case of water in the fuel filter thats turned to ice causing a fuel restriction. a filter change and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol tadded to the gas tank.
