sticky transfer case ? please help

When I disengage four wheel drive the hand lever goes down easy and the light on the dash
goes out but the T case maintains engagement. As I begin to drive again and reach about
30mph the T case disengages with a thunk (audible and felt through frame).

Is there anything (external or in linkages) that can be adjusted to remedy this problem?

When it disengages like that, are you on a hard surface road?

Disengagement can be difficult, unless you're on a surface that allows some slippage of the tires....the system can bind up, holding it in 4wd.

Another thing to make sure of, is that you have the same size/make/wear of tires, and that they're inflated to the same psi. If the tires are different sizes they can cause the same binding. Even tires of the same size, but different manufacturers, can be different enough to cause issues.

If those don't solve the issue, it could be a linkage or transfer case alignment issue.
