If it is a 1.6 L, according to my reference it is incorporated into the speedometer

Yes, on the 1.5 L it also is supposed to be incorporated in the speedo.

Code 17=speedometer cable malfunction. It probably popped out of the transmission hole. Look under where the air intake plastic tube on the backside of the transmission (toward the firewall/passenger side) and follow the wire that goes from the backside of the transmission to the firewall. This is your speedometer cable. If it's popped out, put it back in and reset your ecu (disconnect negative terminal of battery). If your speedo cable is fubared find a new one and replace. Enjoy.

If the cable just pops out it will not throw a code, itll just think the car isnt ever moving.

Sorry, but you're wrong. On a d15b ecu (PM5?) the code 17 will throw if the speedo cable pops out. Happened to my d16 (PM6) a couple times in the cold.

Well on both of mine ive pulled the cables out on purpose to see, and those were a PW0 and a PM9 on my crx and hatch respectively.

I unhooked my cable and tried it with a pm5 and a pm9 ecu's and both throw the code 17 when its unhooked -and I finally found a cluster w/ a tach that works :bigthumb: to pullaPart

If you have the code 17 but your speedo works then you should reset your ECU (see how to above). I'd check to make sure your cable is tight too.
Again, this same thing happened to me. Before I knew what to do I just hoped the speedo would kick back on like it should. I drove all the way to NJ a couple of winters ago like this and f*ed up my mileage (which wasn't the original engine anyway so it really didn't bother me). I also thought I wouldn't be able to reach the cable insert spot from the top so I waited until I got home (SC) from NJ to fix it. :screwy: Oh well, live and learn.
That crx always had something going on. I think there was only like 3 months where it ran perfect with no codes
