Joe Dirts Bird

As mentioned somewhere I thought it would be cool to do some of the lesser known or rendered tv/movie cars. My list includes The Family Truckster from vacation, and the Dart from "Duel" and a few others. I decided to start with Joe Dirts Superbird though because snakes and sparklers are the ones I like too. *grin*

anyway...I'll throw some in now then hit this up somewhere down the road when I have something closer to done.

I'm gonna transfer it one more time I think. I was winging it, pun intended. a little too much. I need to get some of the detail in then I can move forward.

The stance is just too cool on this one. So exaggerated and can't wait to see you work some distressed paint/primer magic to this one.

Kind of weird that we're sort of crossing subject paths. I've been doodling some
old aero warrior stockcars from 69/70. Got inspired by an article in the current issue of Hemming Muscle Machines
which has some great ref pictures from USAC/NASCAR racing at the old Riverside road course.
Should be posting some up in the random sketches thread soon.

I'd hate to post one of my pictures inside your thread lemorris. Not because I think it's rude, but because I really don't wanna get laughed at. I finished a Thunder Road 1951 Ford with a caricature of Robert Mitchum not too long ago if you're interested. If you ever look at my posts then you know I'm really into movie cars! This is an idea I posted a while ago but no one ever joined the discussion. I wanted a movie car contest of some insignificant movie car like the Risky Busiess Porsche 928 or the dog van from Dumb and Dumber. Anyway, awesome idea. If anyone wants to see some more movie cars, take a look at the website in the sig. That what my hobby is. A+

Here is a dum question, How much you charge for a toon that style?

I usually charge anywhere from $250 to $600 for a toon, depending on what it is and who it's for and what it's for. Same for all my stuff.

I hope to get expensive someday but for now I'm just learnin so it's cool.

Nice work and I have to say wicked job on the sale prices of your stuff. I'm sitting at the 300 - 400 mark for my pencil drawings. I still remember selling my first drawing in highschool for $20! I find it hard sometimes to sell my stuff at $375 or $400. But even still, $300+ a picture is wicked considering I do it as a hobby and I love drawing more than anything.

I wish I could get $600 for a picture! I'd be rollin then.

I'm not full-time at all. I have a regular job and do this for fun. I charge because unless it's a gift I'm giving it should be paid for otherwise all art is devalued in a sense. The charges should reflect what you think it's worth and I'm told I'm way low as well as what the market can bear. I found that when I raised my prices I got better clients. My work isn't better than anyone elses by a long shot it is kinda what it is, but if through being persistent, honest, and true to my tasks I can charge something, then I owe it to myself to do just that.

Your work is far superior to mine from what I see so I don't see any reason why you can't get in the 4 figures. I know several car only artists that make that easily on each piece and they have tons of work.

I supplement my income pretty nicely between my art, web, and video side jobs so it's cool. My wife is a hot shot painter though so soon she'll be my sugarmama and I'll just sketch for the love....in skin tight short shorts of course. :)

as posted on my blog

So here’s the version that will go into p-shop and become the template.

Once again this is just 20 minutes a day kinda practice stuff so it’s all good.

Actually you might not see much difference between this one and the last update, but there are many. I printed some reference and locked down the front rim. I adjusted the rear wheel. Changed the shadow (which I’ll do again), I changed the roofline sloping back, widened the drivers side tailight section, simplified the pillars, added the dent (still needs love), added another guide line for shading the side, tweaked the wing (which is just plain silly) and I thought about music…so yeah…it is in fact “all good” :)

Amazing how many small changes can add up in time.
The wheel detailing looks spot on.

Can't wait to see how you handle the fadiing primer colors and the rusty look.
