We have a 99' LHS that was flooded. we were told that it was fresh water, but some things indicate salt. except there is no rust anywhere on the car. Just corrosion on any bare metal. Anyway. We can't get the motor to turn over. Would it possible to rebuild the engine and tranny? Or is it scrap? We can use some of the body parts for another LHS, but we would like to try to get some of our money back. Thanks

Firstly, sorry to hear your car got flooded out, that's a sad thing to happen to a nice ride,

Secondly, you may want to check with your state vehicle laws, in some states you can not register a "Flood Car" and it may also be illegal to sell one.

Even if you choose to restore it, since the car was flooded your also talking replacing just about everything electrical in the car like modules, switches, motors, and whatnot and that can be prohibitively expensive not to mention the cost of rebuilding or replacing the entire drivetrain (yes the tranny is probably toast too) as well as wheel bearings, struts and such.

Sadly I advise to cut your losses and use the car for any good parts that will work on another or possibly sell some good parts from it to help recoup what you have into it. To resurrect a flooded out one really is not worth the time or expense.

my husband had planned on restoring it for himself until we figured out that it's most likely salt water. we just bought it. we have a line on a car that needs front end parts, but I was wondering if the engine is rebuildable. the transmission fluid is full and looks like new fluid, no signs of water in it. we want to sell the car as a rolling chassis with a rebuildable engine and tranny. Just so we can recoup some of my money. Thanks a bunch. M
