so, i just spent a good hour reading people argue about whether or not its a good thing or a bad thing to add an intake mani and a TB to your 420a...
so i wanted to ask all of you trusty dsm'rs your opinions...
with my mods...what would i realistically see in gains(or losses) across the board with an aftermarket intake manifold and throttle body?? also taking into account whether or not the benefits match the hassle..

The stock IM flows fine. You may just want to port and smooth out the runners. A lot of people buy those OBX IMs but I think they're more for show. Never seen anything saying those made anymore power.
As for the TB, get that bored to 55mm or 57mm. That should be fine.

Port and polish your intake manifold. Your also going to need to port out the opening where the TB bolts up. You can buy a bolt on TB and be good to go but they are a little on the expensive side. With your mods I would go to a 60mm TB. You can also buy one of these or do the jeep 60mm TB mod like I did. Total cost was like $25 for the jeep TB. Check 2gnt for a write up on the mod.

I just want everyone that might search this to know this ithread is based on the 420A motor.
The 4g63 especially the 2g's are in a painful need of a freer flowing intake mani and tb in anything of excess of a s16g.

a throttle body really isn't that complicated a part. Its just a plate that opens and closes with a couple extra holes for some emissions and things. I would say just whatever fits and is cheap. I don't know which ones go on the 420a's no experience.

For the most part the 420a's use stock TBs. I honestly can't think of 1 aftermarket TB. Best bet is to get it bored out or go with the Jeep TB as Silver stated. Can pull them off junkyards for cheap.

The stock TB can not be bored past 57mm. There is one company that makes aftermarket TBs but I cant think of them off the top of my head. Search around some and you will find it. They are pricey though.

Dont even waste your time with your mod list on an aftermarket intake. Bore the TB sure, but 62mm? Overkill as hell. Aftermarket IM's, particularly the sheet metal ones, are only really power adders in the upper rpms and if memory serves they actually take away a lot of your low and mid range. Great if you're going to be running around the track at 6.5-9k constantly, but for every day use you're going to be basically making your car slower. Regardless, those are for big turbo guys running their stuff to the tits, and even if you were boosting the shit out of that little 16g and tracking it, I'd be suprised to see even a marginal gain.

I run a 60mm. A 62mm would be fine, there are not to many people that use aftermarket intakes on the 420a motor. And the ones that do I haven't even seen a dyno sheet showing the gain performance. I think its more of a show mod than anything.
