It's a real showdown! (Below, right: autosandal, Left: flying feather)

the AUTOSANDAL VS. the FLYING FEATHER!
Here, right now, two examples of 1950s Japanese micro motoring go head to head.
SPECIFCATIONS:
Autosandal:
Engine: 2-stroke, 349cc, 6hp @ 2700rpm
Weight: 407Kg
Seats: 2
Top Speed: 60Km/h
Flying Feather (suminoe):
Engine: V2OHV, 357cc, 12.5hp @ 4500rpm
Weight: 400Kg
Seats: 2
Top speed: 60Km/h

Which do you think is a better car? (I think I'll go to sleep now, I'm probably getting too esoteric)
PS: the Flying Feather was designed by Yutaka Katayama (for you Datsun and Nissan fans!)

Hilarious little cars!! Any other micro machines that you know about? What years were these two made? It looks like the Flying Leather has the power advantage. those 12.5bhp must really tear up those tyres! :hehehe:

Flying Feather 1955 (one year only - 50 made) Autosandal 1953-1955

Here's a very early Subaru (1962 at the latest!) this had a 356cc 16hp engine. (also note black Toyopet Crown in the background!)

I'm surprised that nobody has comented on Yutaka Katayama, come on now, somebody should know that apart from the flying feather he was responsible for the 240Z!

But for a real laugh, take a look at this "Fuji Cabin"

they made less than 100 of these three wheeled plastic monsters, they were powered by 191cc single cylinder 4.7hp engines! :D this is the only one in North America, and one of three known to exist (which means it's slightly more common than the autosandal, which to the best of my knowledge, none exist anymore!)

wow thats some old school cars. that was time when american's still laughed at japanese cars, and never had thought that they would pose a threat to the american market.
