with reference to the toghe series new mr2 (kit # 1000-04024), if this kit is not an example of false advertising, i don't know what is!!
i took a break from another project cuz i don't have my airbrush available at the moment and decided to open up my new mr2 kit to check out the goods. here's a pic of the box art taken from hlj:
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/664350mr2.jpg
the box art has the gt version of the mr2 (the turbo one) on the tracks drifting away at an angle that does not show the roof of the car (the picture doesn't show the badges that well but trust me, it's there). for starters, the body of the model has the g-limited badge molded on the car instead of the gt badge. so its not a turbo, big deal... no engine detail right? well... it is to me! in this case, the vents on the engine cover is raised on the turbo version and not on the g-limited version. even the box art has the gt badge with the raised vents on there clearly visible! secondly, i believe all the mr2 gts have a t-top. this car body doesn't!!:angryfire no t-top, no sunroof! in essence, they sold me a g-limited mr2 body advertised as a mr2 gt! can someone just tell me i'm wrong and that these details are just 'in my head' and that there is no reason for me to be angry? i may be completely wrong about my claims but i'm confident that i'm not. i'm so pissed right now! i firmly belive this is indeed false advertising !!! my plans were to convert this thing into a widebody mr2 but all these little details add up to alot in what i envisioned for my project. all i can do now is maybe ebay this thing and look for another one. for all those who are looking for an mr2, make sure you know what you're buying cuz i can't belive fujimi would intentionally do something like this! i hate you fujimi!!! i hate you!!!:angryfire

My bros second car was a turbo MR2 with a non-turbo hood and non-turbo roof ;)
I really dislike fujimi myself after doing a fujimi skyline. After realizing fujimi and hasegawa are'nt up to Tamiya standards, I've been obsessed with Tamiya ever since. Bottom line is, if Tamiya makes it, buy the Tamiya one. But unfortunatly Tamya does'nt make an MR2.
I've seen your itr, and you're saying you can't make this into a turbo body??? Who the hell are you kidding? :D

I had a similar problem with my Veilside 300z, It had no T Roof, wrong wheels, wrong mirrors, no bonnet bulge, wrong seats etc. For what I paid I was well P*ssed off, so much so I emailed HLJ to complain that the kit didn't match the Picture on the front. Result, a credit back to my card for about half the price and an email reply apologising but saying there were disclaimers on the box, trouble was they were in Japanese which they admitted wasn't very helpfull. My advice is to drop them a mail see what they say, wont cost you and you never know.

I read somewhere the MR2 was actually a hobbyist's model that Fujimi decided to replicate? and so the fitment of parts etc is out the window..
just my 2 cents

There is a perfect explanation for all of this. Its not like they want to mess with you. Also they wouldnt do it cause they can loose lots of business that way so just take it back and tell them if they dont give you the correct model that they will have a law suit on there hands.

I think it was Hiro that pointed out that on all Fujimi boxes it says, in Japanese, 'box art does not represent actual model.'
But, yeah, Fujimi seems to have switched SW20 and SW21 molds on us... Do a search to see many others in this forum, including myself, ranting about the same thing. :(

Can you sue a Japan business like that? I think you can if they operate in America right?

i find it funny how fujimi would put box art on a model box that does not accurately describe the contents....
anyway, does anyone know the kit number of an actual turbo mr2 with t-top and the newer style reverse lights?

Will check at home. :o Mine was ID-40. kit no. 3370. IT had the proper t-top and turbo engine cover. I think Chris has since bought the same kit and got the hardroof, non-turbo version...

I got the same red kit in 2 different boxes! The only difference is that the Toghe kit came with decals. I don't mind because now I can build one now and one later when/if Chris does a kit for it:cool:

jay, are you saying that even if one of us bought the kit with the turbo t-top product ID, we still risk the chance of not getting the correct body!? what is fujimi thinking!?

a. Yup. They seem to have switched all the molds at some point. I wonder if they even still have the t-top turbo body mold...
BTW, they all had the later-style taillights, AFAIK.

actually, there's a white one (kit #18015) that has 18inch wheels advertised that has a t-top with the older style tail lights on there. its a turbo as well. don't know from which series though. who would have thought that fujimi would have so many variations of the mr2 floating around and boxed inaccurately... makes me wonder how something like this ever happens... mixing the molds that is.

Do you guys know the difference between their Schnitzer S5, BMW M5, and 535i ? Just one little decal badge, that doesn't even have a place for in the mold.
They try to sell their one molding as several different cars. Hence the "turbo" on a non turbo mold. Like TONIOSEVEN said, i too got the same exact thing in different boxes.
i llloooooovvveeeeeeee Fujimi :flipa:

i understand your point mainomega. for a badge not to make a difference if the badge is not molded onto the body (esp. if it is provided in form of a decal) is understandable. however, my/our contention is that the badges are molded on the car body in this particular case. the points of interest here is that fujimi does manufacture a relatively accurate mr2 gt body as well as an mr2 glimited body. there are cosmetic differences between the two and are what distinguishes one from the other. for a manufacturer to mix the two or to later on down the line call them the 'same' when two different and distinct molds exists is our point. this is in my belief to be irresponsible. granted that there may be minor differences in the car you mentioned, we are debating/discussing this particular mr2 kit and its inaccuracies. i'm sure many of us would be a bit upset if we opened up a kit and found out that what we have bought was distinctly different from what was advertised to be. some may not care but i for one believe in truth in advertising.
