94 gcl with lots of problems

This is an update to the thread titled: need help. problems i cant figure out.
I had to take the door off but i got the power windows working:smile: . There were four broken wire that i reconnected. After i fixed that i went to take a drive and realized that now my radio, power door locks, and door ajar DING dont work:mad: . Any ideas?

Also, the fuel gage still doesnt work and the battery wont hold a charge for more than a few hours.

For the door locks, check to be sure that all the electrical connections in the door are properly hooked up.

Battery that won't hold a charge should be replaced.

Check all your fuses.

The gas gauge could be the sending unit in the tank...I haven't worked on that; someone who has should be along shortly.

The battery is less than a month old. I replaced the one that was in it when i bought it. It was only two months old. It isnt a battery problem. If you have any other ideas please let me know.

Well with a new battery that's not staying charged...a few ideas:

Bad battery. Bad alternator. Bad voltage regulator/etc. Corroded battery cables.

I'd take it to an AutoZone or Advance Auto, they offer free battery and alternator testing. If your battery cables (usually the positive side) are corroded, then they could reduce voltage and cause some of the issues you're seeing.

Everytime I shut the vehicle off and it is going to sit for more than an hour i have to disconnect the negative cable from the battery. It starts right up after i re connect it. I think something is pulling juice from the battery when the car is off. Any ideas how i can find out and fix the problem?

There are methods to locate the circuit that has the draw. 1.You could pull the alternator and take it to an auto store to bench test it for free. 2.Make sure you battery has a full charge. Pull the light under the hood. Door must be closed and no interior lights lit. Use a test light or multimeter. Disconnect the neg cable. Hook the clamp end of the testlight to the neg cable and touch the neg post with the other end. The light should not burn brightly and if it does you have a draw. Pull each fuze and check the light. Once the light dims when a particular fuze is pulled you have found the circuit that has a short. Check your owners manual for the circuits that that fuze services. From there it is a matter of elimination. You could also use a multimeter to measure the amount of ohms being drawn. There is a small amount of draw from the PCM all the time but not enough to kill the battery. I'm not an electrical expert but know some of the basics. There is probably and electrical guru at this site who can illuminate us both. Good luck.
