So i was about to change my oil in my 94 5.7L?? and wanted to first make sure that my filter wrench was the same as my 95 4.3L. I got under the car and the filter wrench i have for my 4.3L did not fit...it was too big. i slid under the car and tried to loosen the filter by hand but it was too tight. i noticed some numbers stamped on the engine block that read 327 and under the "2" in 327 was a 5. The 327 was on both sides of the block but the 5 under the 2 was only one side. does this mean the engine is a 327 and not a 350?

The 327 cid engine ceased production in 1969. The EFI intake systems from post 1988 small block engines will not fit a 327.
So if your engine looks like other 90's Caprices, and has a stock EFI intake manifold, air cleaner etc, it is not a 327.

i did have the stock airfilter system on it with the home base in the center. so ur saying its not a 327 even though its stamped 327. is it possible to take a 327 block and make everything fit? i know these may seem like stupid questions to people who know alot about engines but i am not one of those people. i got my motor swapped out a few years ago for a 350 is what i wanted so is there anyway they put a 327 in my car to pull a fast one on me...

so i got under my 95 4.3L to see what numbers were stamped in the block and i was looking for something like 265 but it read 588...so this must not be the cubic inches of the motor...but does anyone know what these numbers mean? 588 on a 95 4.3 and 327 on a 94 supposed to be 5.7 350..and should the oil filters be different sizes on these vehicles? sorry about all the questions but u all are such a great help

Those are block casting numbers, not CID. Your engine is a 5.7 LT1.

The oil filters should be the same, but maybe someone changed the filter adapter on one of the cars along the way.

You need a host site online. I use Photobucket, sign up for free.
If you don't want to mess with that PM me for an email address and then send the pics to me and I can put them up.
On one of my LT1s I used an old gen 1 filter adapter that has a larger diameter filter seal directly to the block, went back to the LT1/L99 offset adapter when I changed headers and they would not clear the big filter.

So the filter i took out of my 94 5.7L is a Napa 21036... CROSS REFERECNCE TO :
AC DELCO = AC PF-52
FRAM = PH-3535
PENNZOIL = PZ-28 & PZ-15
GM # = 25010908
this napa 21036 is slightly smaller than the filter on my 95 4.3L...is there any reason to change to a bigger filter?

An advantage to switching to a larger filter is an increase in oil capacity. This helps in lubrication and the removal of contaminants, and in most cases the larger filter has more filtering media, making it a better choice for removing more of these contaminants.With that being said, make sure a larger filter will fit into the space where the oil filter goes and there are no obstructions.
Some oil filter manufacturers have a table in their catalogs,( not all of their catalogs, the ones mainly produced for professionals and warehouses, etc. not the DIY type catalogs you find in the auto section of big box retailers.) In this table they outline their selection of filters by part #s and then they list the OD (outside dimensions), the thread type and size of the threaded area that screws onto your engine , and whether or not there is an "anti-drain back valve " in the filter. When determining if a certain filter can replace your old one, make sure they are the same in respect to the thread size and type, and whether an anti drain back valve is needed.

even if the block was from a 327, the 327 was simply a destroked 350.
they both have a 4" bore.
the 350 has a 3.48" stroke.
the 327 has a 3.25" stroke.
if you wanted a 383, you would put a 3.75" stroke crank in it, which is what came on the 400 big block chevy engine.
the only difference is the crankshaft, which has no relation to what is stamped on the block.
even so, the numbers are casting numbers, so dont worry.
