types of spark plug wires

I went to autozone and got the "higher end" Bosch spark plug wires that were listed for my car but i'm not sure if they're the right ones (?) Two of the wires have a long plug on one end, and the other end is the regular 90 degree bent plug. The other 6 have the 90 degree bent plug on both ends. I thought there was a mistake, brought em back, and they said they should work but its just a design change. :screwy: I think they'll work fine, the only thing is that compared to my old wires, the new ones don't have the little nub at the top where they click into the plastic cover on the distributor. I'm assuming that thats just to ensure the plugs stay tight on the distributor and it isn't "imperative" that they clip into that cap. Can anyone confirm that the plugs i described will be ok to use?

Hopefully i didn't make that too confusing and someone knows what i'm talking about.

Yes, I do know what you're talking about. Every set of wires for the old, large cap SB Chevy HEI setup came this way, at least every one I've seen. It's so the two most vulnerable wires clear the exhaust manifolds.

i just bought a set at advanced auto parts for my 83 and they are exactly like the old ones which also have the little nubs for the retaining ring

They're ok. Just match them up as you take out the old ones. You can do them one at a time if you prefer to.

Ok thanks. Thats what i wanted to know. I just wasn't sure if it was necessary for the plugs to have those clips on top.

I used Accel super sport 8mm wires when i changed mine.

Just installed the wires (in 10 degree weather btw:cwm27: but luckily the engine was still warm). Car runs good but haven't had a chance to take it out yet and see if it helped the hesitation at low rpms i was experiencing. I found a mis-matched wire or two so i'm hoping it'll make the difference.

what does everyone think of those MSD wires and dist. caps? i was thinking of getting some of those for a while, is there a difference?

I put the MSD cap and rotor on my car at the last tune up.
Did not notice any difference in performance from OEM stuff but they seem like quality replacement parts.

I always liked the Standard Motor Products wires, also their tune up parts were great quality wise. The line might also be known as Blue Streak.

yeah if theres no noticeable difference id rather just stick with the standard stuff then

Avoid cheap plug wires from AutoZone and Advanced,you will replace them a lot.Cheap is not always better.Bosch makes junk products,to their power tools to their fuel injection systems and screws anything they buy out.I know a retired Vetronix rep that was screwed by them.Bosch bought out Vetronix and took his commission money.
