Hey guys and gals. I was browsing the forums a while ago, fell off the map, but I'm back again and decided to sign up. There are lots of wicked artists on here which is exactly why I'm here too. Meet other artists, share my own drawings and such.

I've been drawing for most of my life and got serious into cars back in 2002. I put two and two together and have been heavy into it ever since. I didn't really get any good at it until 2004/2005 but anyway, here is my newest drawing which I just finished yesterday afternoon.

2006 Weisman GT
30-35 hours start to finish
Done with a mechanical pencil and blending stumps.

I guess thats all for now, I'm going to keep on browsing the forums to check out some other car art for a while. Nice to be here and see you all around.

Welcome. What a beautiful piece, has a very photo-realistic look.

What's the size of the image? I'm thinking it's quite large to capture all the small detailing.

Thanks guys, I've seen some of your work here too and its to my liking very much. The drawing isn't very big to tell you the truth, its 7.75in by 10.5 in. The largest I've done is 9x12, which took me just about 40 hours. This is the drawing here;

they look like a black and white photo. I especially love the angle of the wiesmann gt. It's one of my favourite cars.

question:

Method?

Grid? Artograph?

It looks like there is some photo reference which is bad_ss in my opinion as great reference makes great pieces, but the rendered style is very much unlike anything I've seen in a while.

Your pencil work is fantastic. The style in your rendering leaves that pencil rendering comfort zone and really moves into a more expressive form of art.

I really like your pieces.

Thanks for sharing

Hey Lemorris, thank for the compliments!

I do use a photo reference so I can get all the details that my mind could never ever be able to tell my hand...but how I go about the drawing is I sketch it all out, usually takes an hour or two. Pretty rough, and with very little detail but take the time to make sure the proportions/perspective is bang on...Then I start from the left and go right (right handed, so I don't smudge anything).

I think of it as a paint by numbers sorta thing, haha. Rough outline, then just shade in accordingly. I never use a grid or anything because I was always worried about some of the grid not erasing away 100%.

Guess thats it, the old left-to-right method!

Hey guys, just finished up a new drawing this morning and thought I would share. 1961 Ferrari California Spyder. I'm really happy with this one, like the Weisman, and I'm thinking of starting another Ferrari again in a couple days.

This one took me about 17 hours which is amazingly fast for me.
8" x 12.5" on Bristol Vellum Smooth
Mechanical pencil w/blending sticks.

As a cartoon based artist I have NEVER EVER finished a drawing of any kind to this kind of polish--truly masterful!
That said-as a cartoonist I study other peoples' drawings to try to pull little 'drawing conventions' from them and adapt them to my way of drawing---like perhaps I would have loved to see how you would have drawn out the driver (if this is a rhd car) side hood and fender were foreshortened and how that applies to the shape of the headlight lense --------So I ask you if you could sometime please post a thread showing the progress of one of you pieces.
I do realize the method is different from what I do but I still dig that kinda thing and it's all helpful!
Thanks a bunch!

Seeing the Ferrari almost brought tears to my eyes. I drew one not too long ago. Took me about 5 hours altogether. I thought it was a very good sketch. I think I need to spend more time on mine. Could you give me any pointers about what I need to do to make mine look more photorealistic like yours does?

Hey again fellas, and gals. Thanks for all the comments and compliments, it means a lot. Just wanted to say thanks for now but I wanted to let you know I'd be happy to give a little insight into my drawings, step-by-step. It may take a little while but I don't see the harm in doing it. I keep getting asked to do a tutorial or something, even some WIP pictures but I never get around to doing it when I draw. The day usually goes past without me knowing and I'm too far into it to show the start to finish, haha.

Anyway, the next drawing (coming soon), I'll be sure to show some detailed stuff or kinda how I do and/or see things. I'll keep you guys posted and thanks again everyone!

Hey--where you working in T.O.?

Sadly now where I would like to be working. I'm a graphic designer with 2 years exp. in the industry before I moved to Toronto. I haven't had much luck finding a job due to there not really being any openings that I can find. I draw and do some freelance design now, also work at the Second Cup in the JCC at Bloor and Spadina. I'm hoping to have a design job within the next 4 weeks or so however. I've got hook-ups, they just need to follow through, ha!

Are you in Toronto too?

hi that was quick
I worked in TO I'm in Brampton raising a family now.

I'm not farmiliar with the graphic art field at all but I worked in animation at Nelvana--or Corus Entertainment. I've been out of the business for ten years just as everything switched over to computers.
You should go down and drop in a portfolio for a laugh and see if you get any bites--I know their cartoons are mostly flash and crap like that --I worked there when everything was hand drawn. But who knows maybe there is something there for you to do. They are in the King and Dufferin area--and while you're their check out Island Foods -GREAT West Indies meals-Yummmmmmy! hahaha.
Yowza and George Elliot studio in in that area to. Corus is also YTV and has a bunch of radio stations.
Check it out--it's a try.

we should jump to Pms I guess?
