96 golf gl
wipers only work on high and don't return to the neutal position. They stop whenever and wherever they are shut off. Already replaced wiper switch with a new one and replaced wiper motor with one from the junkyard. Any ideas.

I dont have a Golf, so dont know what the wiper assembly looks like. On lots of cars, there is a mechanism that the wiper motor mounts to, which has an electrical plug with several wires. This typically has a rotary switch inside, whose job is to return the wipers to 'parked' when you turn the control knob to off. If the grease is hardened up in there, the circuit that returns the wiper arms wont carry the current for the motor to 'park' the wiper arms. Your car is about the right age for this to be happening. The wiper assembly from the junkyard might have the same situation. I have been able to open the mechanism up and clean out the hardened grease and regrease it.
Good Luck...
