I just recently bought 1992 Geo Metro that is in excellent condition. However, I am trying to find stuff to either fix or change, ie rear window needs to be a defogger, front center console is cracked and needs to be replaced, and possibly even the turbo that came out with some of the other Metros.

The person that I bought it from annotated everything that he did on a spread sheet and listed the mileage on when it is due to have something replaced. There was a lot of preventative maintenance done on it and I plan on keeping up with everything.

I look forward to hearing from everyone.

Ken

PS What I would like to see is a GeoMetro.com site.

Congrats on your purchase. I think a lot of Metros get run into the ground because they're treated like throw-away cars and the owners don't bother with regular maintenance.

As far as the the items you're looking for, you might try the dealer for the center console (I assume you need just the surround/trim piece?). For the hatch, I have the same problem: no rear defogger on my '91. This really should've been a standard option. Being in Wisconsin, the rear window ices up pretty much anytime I drive it at night in the winter.

There's a blue '92 at my local junkyard with a good rust-free hatch with defogger, but they want $100 for it. Little steep for me, though.

Center console and rear window defroster are going to be junkyard or carry your entire bank account down to the dealer. Wiring is already there, you just need the switch and the window glass.

No Metro ever got a turbo, but that's arguing semantics, the Pontiac Firefly did in Canada and it's the exact same car. The only turbo available in the States was on the Sprint and there were a lot of differences in the car and the engine. If you want a factory turbo you're going to need an entire Firefly from Canada, there were a lot of differences including the clutch and transmission.

There are a ton of places you can go on the Internet to discuss your new love of Suzukis with too few cylinders. The most comprehensive is TeamSwift, RedlineGTI is similar but Australian and mostly about GTIs. Yahoo Groups has MetroSwift and thegeometroclub, Google Groups has MetroManiacs which split off from thegeometroclub and is about 75% politics and economics, 25% Metros.
