Hi guys,

I spent some time reading progress reports on some stunning, sometimes mind boggling building projects. Now I like to share a project which I started about 10 months ago and kept me busy for over 400 hours already.

It is the 1:8 Pocher F40 ..longtime out of production and not easy to lay hands on.
http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10860/DSC_0561.jpg

I also bought the transkit from Autograph Germany. 3 kilos of parts, Photo etch, screws, cloth etc. About 350 times sold but seldom finished  Sold as "not for the faint hearted" ...and that is true:grinyes:

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10860/DSC_0523.jpg

On this moment the engine is finished, the body is painted in a professional paint shop and now the assembly of all these parts take place.
A lot of pictures are made but I show you a selection which show all the "important moments" :licka:

Hew-Yeah! I like my Pocher's big and complicated and this one delivers. I have one of these babies on the shelf waiting for a spare 24 months of building time. Tony, I built the F40 stock before the Autograph transkit was available and I remember none of the body slats were open. That is some impressive die-cast grinding on your part! Nice soldering on those rotors too.

I hear the intake manifold detail is kinda complicated. Any insights you feel like sharing?

Worst part of the project :screwy::tongue:

I could not think of any particular difficulties. The only thing I can say is that the TK has a very poor manual so you have to figure out a lot yourself

Hey Tony, found your WIP! You've gotten more finished since the last time I saw it... looking excellent! I'm working on the intake manifold and the suspension mounting points on mine. Lots of fabrication, not much progress:frown:!
Thanks for your well wishes about my baby and my father... they're both doing much better! Welcome again!!!

Hi Garey,

Thanks for the warm welcome. The progress on the F40 is slow...so many labour intensive little jobs with less to no visible progress. This afternoon I worked 2 hours to get #44 in its place

http://www.ricambiamerica.com/images/diagrams/full/F40_109.jpg

Tomorrow I have to put #43 in place which should vertically and horizontally fit perfect with the rear hood

Did you start with a donor car or an unassembled F40 kit? I bought my tk in a package deal with an F40 kit. Then as luck would have it, a guy offered me a built F40 for $100 so I can go either way on mine.

I started with an unassembled car..so no messed up parts by builders with less skills  Although you see sometimes mint build cars which can unassembled without much problems. Did you start with your TK alkready?

I haven't started mine. I'll do it one day but it's going to be a loooong project that takes up a lot of room so I'm in no hurry. It's from the very first Speedline issue. I just looked at the box (a gray plastic tub) and it says 28/200 so I guess this is only the 28th of the first run Uli did. I'm sure yours has many updates and changes since mine was produced.

I still have an Alfa Monza about 70% complete needing to be finished before I can start another 1/8 without a guilty conscience.

The 2nd edition only got an update on the hubs and the speedline wheels...but that is everything as far as I know

It is assembly time now. After painting the body I can start with assembling all the parts that are waiting at the shelf.

I had some problem during the assembly: Pocher cars are partly screwed together with sometime large screws with this result

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10860/DSC_0223a.jpg

After drilling a whole, filling it with 2K paint, sanding and polishing the problem is over

Than I could go on with assembling

and soldering the fuel tanks

I had hoped that I could make a smooth ending to this project..all the hurdles seem to be taken...but unfortunately

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10860/DSC_0248.jpg

The transkit required that the original door lock should be removed but after that the doors would not close any more. But after a lot of experimenting it looks like this now: they close perfectly.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10860/DSC_0256.jpg

And the solution are Neodynium Magnets, very small, very strong

That's because it isn't...is 1/8...huge thing!!

Someone pointed me to the magnets...I had never heard about them :iceslolan I tried it firstly with magnet foil but that was to weak. The magnets I used have "holding power" of 300 grams (metric) each! The smallest I bought are discs (2 to 1 mm) with a "holding power" of 140 grams (metric) per magnet. With that size you can use it with 1:24 builds!

Its a shame they discontinued them.

True..but nowadays it is not feasible any more. If they were manufactured today the price would be much higher than the current Ebay prices. Labour is not as cheap any more as 20/30 years ago. Initially all the parts were made in small home factories by families who could not find work in the harsh seventies with much unemployment in northern Italy.
