I just picked up some new 6x9 speakers for the rear deck of my 2002 Pontiac Grand Am 4dr and im a little confused about how to gain full access to the speakers themselves. Is there anyone who has done this before or has a link to a guide of some sort? thanks in advance.

open the trunk and look under where the speakers are

if its anything like my 95 grand am you might have to pull off the panel from the top of the speakers or just raise it enough to get access ...if i remember it was a bitch but some models have a way to drop the back seats which will help.

Yes I remember on mine when I did speakers for some reason I had to removed back seat. That was on 97 GA

well the seats do fold down so taking out the entire back seat is useless. the cover i can get to but the thing is the seat belt covers that attach to the interior of the car are not allowing me to fully push the carpet panel up and over the 3 brackets that keep it in place. if i can just get that carpet liner out i would be golden.

alrighty everyone finnaly got the carpet liner off after a little struggle but now i know how ti works so its all good.
Now onto the next problem...The wiring of the speakers.....
THe speakers that i have only have 2 terminals. But the speakers that are in the Grand Am stock have 4 terminals and i dont know which ones to connect and disconnect.
Heres some pictures of what i am talking about:

it seems as though upon further research and looking at the schemtaics of the rear wiring diagram the 4 wires are for the tweeter AND the woofer. So by eliminating the tweeter wires and just using the two woofer wires i should be good right?

Taking a closer look at the stock woofer/tweeter setup they have going, i can conclude that what looks like 4 different wires are actually just two wires clipped with the blue stopper. So would it be safe to say that just connecting one of the pairs to my new speakers would make it work just fine?

Look at the speaker you can see which two wires goto the tweeter part and the sub. I was just talkin about this lastnight, with some pics. ;)

If you get any high pitched squeals the wires are wong.
Hope that helps.
ps- pics should be no larger then 800x600.
