I bought my '99 Malibu almost 2 years ago from a dealer in NJ. I have had many smaller things replaced in it. Last May...Mothers Day to be exact.. I was driving home and my car died. The motor had blown. I took it to be replaced. The mechanic had told me that the reason the motor blew was because the cam broke. I replaced the motor and the weekend after Christmas...BAM my motor blows again...problem...cam broke AGAIN. Now from what I have heard from MANY chevy mechanics is "OMG I have been here for 30 years and have never ever seen that happen" and last night I spoke to another chevy mechanic and he said "I have sold alot of Malibu's and that just doesn't happen" My response was "Well obviously it does happen because it happened to me TWICE." I called the customer service center for GM and that lady was just useless. I am praying that someone...just someone out here in automotive land has some idea what is wrong. I love my car and it has low miles on it but I am afraid that if I put another motor in it this will just happen again. Also if anyone has any ideas on someone from GM I can talk to and just give a piece of my mind to that would help also.
Thanks for your time!

Search all the GM automotive forums for your size engine and cam breakage- you'll see quite a few- I believe they saved money with hollow cams made in China. I've been reading up on some of them- had a buddy have a broken cam- unusual no more......

3.1 liter?

Have had several with broken cams, The good news is that the aftermarket rebuilders, Jasper to be specific, are on top of this and have a much better reman engine than any crate engine you could buy from GM, IMO!
