here is my story. i went out to the garage to start my truck. 94 chevy c1500 with about 185,000 miles. turned the key and got nothing. battery connections were fine, i even unhooked them and retightened them. still no start. so i took the wife's car to work. she called later and said she tried it and it started right up. so she takes it to work. back home, no problem. i get home and go to start it and it starts 3 straight times. then on the 4th, nothing. could it be the starter? i replaced it i believe about 3 years ago. im gonna take it up to autozone for a test today after work. any other clues? i could use the help. a week ago it wouldn't start, but that was the fuel pump, fixed it and it started until now. please help. thanks.

There's been reports of the ignition switch going bad in the steering column...I'd check that too.

No luck on the ignition switch. just replaced it and it still does the same thing. ive cleaned off the connections to the battery (not really dirty) but thought i would. i just can't seem to narrow it down. i remember once when i installed a stereo it blew a fuse and i took it in (cost me 75.00 to check) and 2.00 for the fuse. which fuse would it be? anyone got any suggestions before i drag it to a mechanic? thanks

Have someone try starting it while you tap on the starter. Do you have 9.6 volts to starter with key in start postion?

Check the backup/neutral safety switch on the steering column. Do back up lights work?

Have you checked the wiring connections on the starter?

How did you determine it was the ignition switch? In post #3 you mentioned that you installed ignition switch and did not work. Did you install yet another ignition switch.

Just curious, Glad you got it fixed.

thanks for posting fix
