Gee Bob, that's the second one in as many months . Are you going to end up like Victor Kiam, the guy in those Remington shaver commercials who said he liked the product so much, he bought the company? If so, you're a little too late:frown:

It beats spending $40K for an import. :uhoh:

Rich, can you do me a favor and run the VIN like you did on the other GXP for GM RPO codes/options, etc. TIA.

BTW - The color is dark slate metallic which came out for the 2008 model year only. It looks different in the day but does look black at night. :dunno:

How does it compare to the GTP?

Wally, overall no contest in favor of the GXP. However, as mentioned my GTP is faster due to the few thousand dollar mods I've dumped into it over the past several years. These are two different cars based on the features and date of manufacture so there really is no comparison.

Never any love Bob.

In all seriousness, it looks like a very sharp car! Maybe you haven't had the chance to really get on either of the GXP's yet but if you have how is the torque steer on those things? I would imagine you get a decient amount of it with the 5.3L under the hood but there are definately cars that can supress the effect.

one word...scary. i have an '06 Impala SS with the 5.3, wish i coulda got a GXP. much better built car.

Thanks Alex. There is torque steer but no worse than a GP with a Series II/III 3800 supercharged engine. What the GM engineers did is came up with a weird tire/wheel combination to help minimize or control it. Specially made Z rated Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires. The front are P255/45R18 and the rear P225/50R18. Also, it has the FE4 suspension/handling package with Bilstein struts all around and higher rate strut coil springs.

The Impala SS has the same size tires all around. :dunno:

No I get your point.

I looked at a used '09 Impala SS and what turned me off was the interior design and mainly the dash plus the price was ridiculous. Also, how about a HUD and Tap Shift?

The over 12 inch special rotors with the GXP logo calipers are really nice but prone to premature failure. The first GXP I bought had a brake job done by the dealership under warranty according the the CarFax service history.

Regardless if it is an Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS or GXP what we all have in common is the nice 5.3L V8 engine. :grinyes:

yeah, i know what you mean. i'm not a real big fan of the interior either. really the only reason i bought this car is cuz i got a KILLER deal on it. bought the car in early 2008 for $14,995.00 out the door. car had some pretty mean hail damage on the hood so i bought a new one for it. car only had 13K on it.

Also, how about a HUD and Tap Shift

Very nice, sounds like a well built car. People that do the VR4 twin turbo conversion on their SL's have the most horrid torque steer you can imagine. If your arms weren't strong before the swap, they will be now. :shakehead If I am ever in your neck of the woods you have to give me a ride in it. :D

Washer fluid pump dead, oil pan gasket leak, horrible clunks that are probably cradle mounts or something like that. Everything else has been replaced already. :/

I ordered this 1998 GTP from the dealer in 1998. Had a cassette player in the dash. The only mod is a factory CD player from ebay and a couple of Sony speakers in the back. It's been trouble free, 63K miles. I love it. If I was to buy again, though, I might get the G8 GXP.http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr230/rkvons/GTP_FR.jpg
Just turned 78K. Had to replace the fuel filler neck due to a evap test failure. What a chunk of rust the old one was. Also that little spring steel piece that closes the fuel filler door broke a long time ago. I had been to the junkyard and got one off of another vehicle and had it laying around, but was too big of a job to replace by itself. While doing the fuel filler neck, I replaced this spring also. Works great. Just passed emissions. Could not get the Catalyst Efficiency test to go from Inc to Ok. Still passed though. Just did the trans fluid for the first time. Seems to shift better. Got quite a bit of rust on my driver's side quarter panel on the inside at the very bottom, viewable when the driver's door is open and looking in there. Bothers me.

Finally reached a new milestone on '97 Grand Prix GT. Bought this car new in Feb. 1997 and used it as my commuter. When I retired in Aug. of 2009 my GP had around 375,000 miles on it and I didn't drive it everyday anymore. So when my daughter wrecked her Sunfire two years ago, I donated to the cause. She still lives next door and drives it about 7 miles one way to work each day. Today she sent me this picture from her phone.
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j203/wlkjr/GPodometer.jpg
On edit: Apparently photos no longer work. It was a picture of the odometer reading over 400,000 miles.

It is the original engine and transmission. At 307,000 miles I did the intake gasket and plenum job along with new plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets and some misc. stuff. Replaced the water pump about 3 times and had the altenator rebuilt at 235,000 miles.
This has been the best car I've ever owned. I'm truly sadden that Pontiac is no longer made. We bought a 2007 G6 convertible for my wife two years ago, used. It's not the car the GP is, but still an Indian.
Thanks to Bob (bnaylor), Rich (richtazz) and all the others who've given help keeping this thing running. It was in one fender and hood bender when my daughter hit a horse. The insurance company wanted to total it but I insisted it be repaired. It still looks great and runs good although it has a minor oil leak and also transmission and needs a little coolant about every two months. Good testament for Havoline 10W30 oil changed every 5000 miles. Oh and by the way, Fram filters for the last 200,000 miles.
