1990 Cavalier runs very rough and stalls when driven

I'm hoping someone may have a solution for a problem with my 1990 Cavalier. The engine has some high miles but the 2.2 engine has been taken pretty good care of over the years. About two year ago I replaced the head gasket due to antifreeze starting to leak. The idle has was a little rough before and after the new head gasket... but I never worried too much about it.
Once I would give it some pedal it would smooth out and had no drive-ability issues. A week ago it left my wife sit along the roadway. It will start but idles worse than before. When I give it gas to pull out from a stop, it will run very rough buck a little and stall. If I can get it moving, it will drive as long as I'm very light on the throttle. Too much gas and it will run really bad and stall.

I had the transmission rebuilt two years ago so I don't think that the trans is any issue here. If I put it in neutral is will still run poorly if I take it above idle. I'm wondering if one or more problems may be contributing to this to include a clogged up catalytic converter or maybe the problem is related to the throttle position sensor or the TBI just needs to be rebuilt. Interesting the check engine light does not come on. Any ideas on this problem arevery appreciated.

plugs ,wires and both filters to start with. How many miles on it? high idle Could be a vaccum leak

The strange thing is it runs pretty decent until it gets up to operation temperature. After that, it starts off like a small dead spot in the throttle and progressively gets worse as the car warms up... until the entire peddle is like one big dead spot in the throttle. At this point it typically will stall out.

I haven't had the chance to post a reply to this problem...but I did figure it out. I first replaced the coolant temp sensor and fixed the two wires that run to it. The wires were almost totally corroded off the sensor. After fixing that, I hooked up a set of spark plug testers, the type that allow you to see the spark in action as the engine is running. It turned out that as the engine warmed up, one of the coils would crap out and fire very poorly. I replaced it wityh a used coil that I had lying around and once again it ran like a champ. I highly recommend picking up a couple of those plug testers...what a simple testing tool to use and dirt cheap too from harbor freight.
