97 Lumina will not start

Need help with my 1997 Lumina with 3.1 engine. Engine will not crank over with the key. Battery tests good and all other electrical functions seem to work OK. I can jump the starter wire at the solenoid and the car will start and run for about five seconds and then die. Somehow I am not getting current to activate the solenoid at the starter. Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks

What does the "SECURITY" lamp on the instrument panel do when the ignition is turned on?

The security light is flashing with the key on.

The SECURITY lamp should stop flashing after about 4 seconds. If it doesn't, the VATS/PassKey system is not detecting the correct key pellet resistance. When that occurs, the engine will not start.

After testing found I had an open circuit in the two wires going up the steering column to the switch. Resistors in keys checked out. Wound up installing appropriate resistors in the key sense wire and bypassing the contacts in the switch for the key. All works and starts now with security light going out. Thanks for the help.
