Gas filler neck leak

I have a 2003 Montana, i noticed there was gas dripping on my driveway the other day. So i go down on my knees to look underneath to see where it was coming from and its dripping out where the filler neck goes into the gas tank. But it only drips when it has more than a half of tank of gas. Also shows as code po442 does that relate to the problem?

Has anyone encountered this problem, if so does anyone have a solution?

Thanks in advance

i think it has a hose clamp where the hose attaches to the tank. with a 5/16 nut driver or flat blade screwdriver you might be able to tighten it enough to stop the leak. this should fix the code po442 which could be caused by a loose gas cap or a loose hose as you have discribed.

if the clamp isn't loose check for a cracked fillerneck hose at the tank.yeah if you have gas dripping and a spark or flame ignites the vapors then you'll have a fire at the gas tank which is plastic.

it doesnt have a clamp to tighten, its where the filler neck goes directly into the gas tank (No rubber hose). its not like the older cars as i know what you are talking about. Thanks for the replies so far, still looking for a solution.

it has the rubber hose that runs down to the tank but im talking about the plastic round piece between the rubber hose and the tank itself.

it should be part of the gas tank..... the rubber hose slips over it and usually a big hose clamp holds the rubber hose tight.get the gas below the neck in the tank and twist on the rubber hose and take it off the tank see if the neck of the tank is split or cracked. if not and the hose is in good shape put a hose clamp on the rubber hose just tighten the clamp enough to keep the hose from turning .as you don't want to tighten as much as if the neck of the tank was metal because it will bust the plastic..

it has the rubber hose that runs down to the tank but im talking about the plastic round piece between the rubber hose and the tank itself.ok i called a pontiac dealer and talked to the parts man about what was missing on yours making it drip gas. your missing a hose clamp that goes on the rubber hose where it slips on the neck of the gas tank. it gonna be around a 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" hose clamp and when you put the clamp on position it 1/4" from the end of the rubber hose .you don't have to take the rubber hose off just open the hose clamp all the way and slip it over the rubber hose ,start the threads on the clamp ,position it 1/4" from the end of the rubber hose and tighten it until its snug not real tight as if you tighten it real tight you could bust the plastic neck on the gas tank. this should stop the drip.let us know how it goes.......
