Radio Failure?

Has anyone experienced a radio/processor failure? I have a 2003 Tahoe with the BOSE stereo system and the radio just died, I mean not even the clock illuminates. I also notice the warning chimes have stopped and I think they also eminate from the radio through the speakers. I have checked the power to the radio and it checks okay. The only fix may be to replace the radio, but if I go aftermarket do I lose the warning chimes?

I found a website that explains what your options are regarding this issue. Hope this helps. http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/archives/2749.html

Thanks for the link. From what I read, my radio carries the RDS feature, which controls more than just the radio, and on top of that I bought a replacement factory radio off E-Bay, for $185 + shipping, that I don't think has the RDS feature, so I may be out that also. Thank you GM.

You may just have lost the battery feed to the radio, you may have two fuses that power the radio, one hot all the time and another that is hot when the ignition is in run or acc

I checked all the fuses, none I could find are bad, and I have 12 volts at the plug in the back of the radio. Today , after not working for 2 weeks, my wife calls to tell me the radio started working again. It has done this in the past, but only for a day or so. Only problem is, that the volume is fixed and you can't change the station, on top of that you can't turn it off, even with the key out of the ignition. I had to pull the radio fuse to kill it. Waiting for the replacement factory radio I purchased on E-Bay to arrive to see if that fixes this, but I have doubts.

When you get the replacement radio, take it to the dealer.Has to be programed with the Tech 2 and GM did this starting in 2001 if you want to know.

Update. New radio arrived, installed, display works fine, no sound at all, nothing. Reinstalled original radio and it works great now. What the hey??? I have no clue. Would reprogramming by dealer tech solve the no sound problem?

because of the GM system your vehicle has I believe the new must be programed..call the dealerships to find out if they are familiar with this and how much cost...
what may be your problem could be the BCM...
