Bleeding brakes on 97 Golf

In the online manuals on Autozone.com, it says for bleeding the brakes, just keep pumping the pedal until it's firm and then you're done. Bullshit. So before I bleed the brakes, I've heard that there are cars when you only have to bleed on side on the front, and one side on the front. Something about the axles running on the same lines, blah, blah. So on this Golf, Can I just bleed the one side, or do I have to bleed both sides of each end?

Normally brake lines are run so that one line controls the left front/right rear and right front/left rear. Fortunately I haven't had to do any brake work on my 98 Golf yet, but I'm guessing its not much different from every other car. Loosen all of the bleeder screws. You can do it one line at a time to make it easier. This works better when you have someone help you. With the screw(s) loosened, pump the brake pedal until brake fluid comes out of the bleeder in a solid stream with no air bubbles and then simply tighten the screws. Like I said, I haven't done any brake work on mine yet but this should help a little.
