97 Grand Am

The driver's window of my '97 grand am will open a few inches and stop. If I reverse the direction it will close. I got someone to operate the switch while I applied pressure to the glass and it opened all the way but now I cannot get to close again. Any ideas?

The window regulator is bad, and needs to be replaced.
