Problem with my 98 Cavalier

I bought a 98 cavalier and they had a top post battery in it that was to tall. Well it grounded out against the hood. Now all of the lights in the dash are on and it won't run it just startes and dies instantly. Have put it back to side post with a new battery. Any help on how to get it running again.
