Porsche 911 Carrera

This will be my next project for the SPC Contest.

Tamiya Porsche 911 Carrera!

Reason:

I love the 911 model sinds the beginning of Porsche. The looks of the first 911 are still visble on the last Porsche from now, and that's something that I really like.

Everyone knows how a Porsche looks like, and if you point to a Porsche and ask a car-noob (like my girlfriend) what car that is, they say it's a Porsche!

Since I like tuningcars, I read tuningmags. A while ago I readed a magazine with a article about tuner Sportec. I really love the simple look that this tuner add to his cars. They mainly tune Audi and Porsche, so here's were I got my idea from.

The kit:

I'll use the Tamiya Porsche 911 Carrera, because it's a nice kit and better than Italeri or Revell.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_001_%28Medium%29~3.jpg

The kit contains not many parts. Mostly because it's curbside.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_002_%28Medium%29~3.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_003_%28Medium%29~3.jpg

The body looks great. Some little moldinglines but overall a very nice body.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_004_%28Medium%29~3.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_005_%28Medium%29~3.jpg

The original wheels will be replaced by Fujimi Sportec Mono wheels. These are 19'' and have some flat tyres.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_006_%28Medium%29~2.jpg

I'll paint them gun metal or metallic black, and maybe the trim will be chrome.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_007_%28Medium%29~1.jpg

And a quick dryfit:

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/inhoud_010_%28Medium%29~0.jpg

The color will be Mica Silver from Tamiya.

Kris.

A surprisingly rare kit to see being built.
Nice to see someone take it out of its box instead. In my opinion, this car deserves more respect than it is usually given.

As with the more common GT3 kit, make sure that the A pillars are 100% before commiting to primer/painting. They are notoriously fragile and bend out of shape very, very easily.

Today I started with the kit.

First I painted the wheels with a metallic antracite black paint from Volkswagen. I like the semigloss finish on it so I don't clearcoat it anymore.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/wielen_002_%28Medium%29.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/wielen_003_%28Medium%29.jpg

Than I started with the body. I sanded the moldinglines and the parking sensors on the rearbumper away. After that I rescriped the panellines and I added some primer on it.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/wielen_005_%28Medium%29.jpg

The body and the bodyparts are now ready for the Silver color, so maybe I'll paint it tomorrow or at least this week.

Yesterday I painted the body. In the last coat I had some dust, so I sanded them away and added another last layer today.

This is the result so far:

Hopefully tomorrow I can start masking the body to paint the roof gloss black before clearcoating.

I've an update but this time it's not a good one....

I first masked the body to paint the roof black. After this I let it dry for a day.

Yesterday I started with clearcoating the body.

First I sprayed a layer of Pearl Clear. After this I painted 3 layers normal Clear. But with the last layer it went wrong....
Somehow there comes a drup out of the spraycan which landed on my wet paint. The result is a screwed up paint on the side.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/blanke_lak_003_%28Medium%29~0.jpg

I've now sanded the door and the ugly surface, and maybe tonight I paint it again in Mica Silver and clearcoat it the next day. I hope that place would not be vissible anymore.

It was coming so good but don't let it get you down. I hope after the touch up it will look good. I will be looking forward to your next update.

After some little sanding on the side of the body, I managed to fix the paintproblem.

First I masked off the roof. Than I painted 2 layers of Mica Silver on the side, followed by 1 layer Pearl Clear and 2 layers normal Clear.

Off course I had some overspray, so I painted the whole body 1 more time with Clear.

This is the result so far:

Yesterday I polished the body.

Started with 3600 and ended with 12000 grid. A few polishingcompounds and some carwax and this is the result:

Not interesting enough? I know it's not a **** (censored) drifter, but some reaction would be nice... :-?

Alright, today I did some work on the chassis.

First I painted the shocks and the driveshafts:

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._001_%28Medium%29.jpg

Than painted the subframes and wheatered them.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._003_%28Medium%29.jpg

Some chassiscovers also wheatered.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._004_%28Medium%29.jpg

Painted the exhaust silver, and used some Tamiya make-up for the heatings.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._005_%28Medium%29.jpg

The chassis was already painted flat black. Yesterday I painted the engine, and today I wheatered the whole chassis.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._007_%28Medium%29.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._008_%28Medium%29.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._010_%28Medium%29.jpg

The wheels looks nice but they are missing something. I thought about painted the trim with polished aluminium, just like the original wheels. This is an option on the real wheels as well. So I painted them with Humbrol Metalizer paint. When they are dry enough I have to rub it with some cloth for more shine.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._011_%28Medium%29.jpg

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._012_%28Medium%29.jpg

I also placed the numberplates. First I painted the numberplates white. After all I clearcoated them.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/onderstel_etc._013_%28Medium%29.jpg

From Mdo227 I got the missing headlight. Unfortunatly I found the missing headlight

I also placed the clearparts. For the Porsche logo I used a 3D decal from HobbyDesign.

The sidemirrors got some black paint.

The black gluetrims around the windows are also painted. And I glued them inside the body.

Now it's time to finish the chassis and maybe lower it somewhat.

I also will start on the interior, but I really don't know what color I'm gonna use. I think I will use a red color with alu and black :?:

Count 1 vote to the red/alu/black combo for the interior!

A question: is there any chance you could put some bigger diameter tires on the rear? I think that would improve the look of it!

Thanks for the answer Kris. I meant the diameter of the rims instead of the width, sorry for misleading you. The rear rims have bigger diameter not only bigger with on the real car I think. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Last days I worked on the interior.

First I painted the seats red.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_001_%28Medium%29~1.jpg

The doorpanels are painted black/red en silver. I also painted the interiorlights and added de speaker decals.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_002_%28Medium%29~1.jpg

The dasboard got some 3D logos on it, and also painted silver/black en red.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_003_%28Medium%29~1.jpg

The rearseats are also painted red and black. The carpet is Hiroboy Silver interiorflocking. I think it breaks the black/red combination very well.

http://albums.modelbrouwers.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10027/interieur_005_%28Medium%29~1.jpg

I don't intend to frustrate you as I know how tedious drilling all those holes can be, but in my opinion it looks like there are a few too many holes. If maybe they were drilled with a smaller diameter drill bit it might make it look less crowded. The interior is very nice as always. I would never have thought to do silver flocking with your colour combo, but it works really well and matches the body anyways  I also want your rims
